Toni Servillo had an important presence at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, with two films in the Official Selection:
"Esterno Notte" by Marco Bellocchio, presented in Cannes Première. The film retraces the dramatic events of the Via Fani massacre and the kidnapping of Aldo Moro in 1978, with Servillo in the role of the Christian Democrat leader.
"La Stranezza" by Roberto Andò, presented in the Un Certain Regard section. A surreal comedy that sees Servillo in the role of a theater director dealing with a cast of eccentric actors during the rehearsals of a new show.
The film "Esterno Notte" received a 10-minute standing ovation at its screening.
In addition to the presence of his films in the Selection, Toni Servillo participated in some collateral events of the Festival, such as the presentation of the book-interview "Toni Servillo. Writings, interviews, scene notes" and a meeting with the public.
Toni Servillo's presence at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival was further confirmation of his status as one of the most important and internationally appreciated Italian actors. His performances in "Esterno Notte" and "La Stranezza" once again demonstrated his versatility and talent.
Toni Servillo has a particular bond with the Cannes Film Festival, having already participated in numerous editions in the past, both as an actor and as a member of the jury.
In 2008, he won the Best Actor award for his role in "Gomorrah".
In 2013, he was part of the jury chaired by Steven Spielberg.
